About This Recipe

The classic AeroPress method uses the brewer upright with the plunger on top, pressing hot water through finely ground coffee in 1-2 minutes. Invented by Alan Adler in 2005, it was designed for a fast, clean, low-bitterness cup.

Pressure from the plunge accelerates extraction and creates a slightly more concentrated cup than drip methods. The paper filter removes oils and fines, giving a clean mouthfeel.

Medium and medium-dark roasts that benefit from a short steep and quick extraction. Excellent for travel since the AeroPress is near-indestructible.

  • Tip: Wet the paper filter before brewing to remove any papery taste and pre-warm the chamber.
  • Tip: Stir the slurry for 10 seconds after adding water. This ensures even saturation before you press.
  • Tip: Press slowly and steadily over 20-30 seconds. Stop when you hear a hiss — that is air, not coffee.
