About This Recipe

The standard Orea method follows the manufacturer's recommended approach: a bloom pour followed by one or two main pours, allowing the flat-bottom design to do the work. It is a reliable baseline for exploring what the brewer can do.

The flat bed and quick drain time mean that grind size controls most of the extraction. This makes the standard method very responsive to adjustments — a small grind change produces a noticeable flavour shift.

Any light to medium roast. The Orea is hardware-agnostic; it produces excellent results with both ceramic and plastic bodies.

  • Tip: Start with a slightly coarser grind than you would use for V60. The faster drain rate means you need more surface area.
  • Tip: Pour the bloom water in a spiral from centre to edge, then back to centre. This ensures no dry pockets in the bed.
  • Tip: If the drawdown is under 2 minutes total, grind finer. Over 4 minutes, grind coarser.
